Explore Mayan Civilization At The Perot Museum Of Nature & Science!

Whenever I visit the Perot Museum of Nature and Science I leave with a deeper appreciation of just that- nature and science. I’ve always been profoundly interested in the Mayan culture so you could imagine my excitement when I got the invite to explore the museums new traveling exhibit, Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed! *inserts happy dance*

Presented in English and Spanish, the highly interactive and family- friendly Mesoamerican presentation showcases over 200 authentic artifacts featuring jewelry, pottery, and weapons. It spans over 10,000 square feet of the museum making it the largest Maya exhibition in the U.S. Not only that but the Mayans STILL have over millions of living descendants and once you witness the world of housing, religion and the sacrificing of bodies, foods, sports like playing “hip ball” with a bouncing rubber ball and everyday living created by their ancestors you’ll be amazed with their highly advanced techniques that have cultivated our science. Learning to read hieroglyphs, viewing the Maya calendar, tombs, caves, temples and ancient burial sites that are over thousands years old is fascinating and beautiful.

My personal takeaway from Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed are the unbelievable methods that were used for architecture, their distinctive art and meanings, agriculture, water and housing. I encourage everyone to visit this remarkable exhibit at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science before it leaves Dallas September 4th and explore their unique civilization.
