By now you should know that Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar is one of my fav Dallas eateries so when asked to attend a private lunch at the new location in Plano with founder and CEO Chris Simms plus the opportunity to attack the award winning Butter Cake?!?! I mean like DUH- I wouldn’t pass that up!
The Southern California-based, family-run scratch kitchen opened its second Texas location in Plano at Village 121 on Preston Road making it the company’s 21st location. With over 9,000 square feet, the creatively decorative space tranports you into a Rocky Mountain Wyoming escape with grand lodge-inspired fireplaces, Cowboy artworks and chandelier crafted from Aspen logs. Lazy Dog also offers a dog friendly patio + menu for your four legged pal.
Once seated next to the cozy fireplace the food and drinks started rolling in! Jake set plates in front of me and it was like a huge feast as we shared, chewed and expressed our fondness of the dishes. I’m sure you’re wondering, what was on the menu? Well here goes: (You’ll see my highlights/favorites in red)

STARTERS
Hatch Chile & Bacon Mac N’ Cheese
Bacon, mild New Mexico Hatch Chiles & five cheeses layered with spiral pasta, topped with green onion crumble and cast iron baked
Cast Iron Turkey Meatballs
Hand-formed meatballs made using Chef Gabe’s family recipe, including pine nuts, housemade marinara sauce, mozzarella, romano & basil (These meatballs were a true tongue pleaser. Light and airy, the addition of pine nuts were a delightful spin.)
The Dirty Dog (NEW HAPPY HOUR MENU)
Bacon-wrapped Nathan’s Hot Dog in a King’s Hawaiian Bun, topped with potato chips, bleu cheese dressing, Buffalo sauce and slaw. (OMGosh this baby blew me into the river! The combination of sweet, sour and spicy produced an oral explosion- A MUST HAVE!)
BBQ Smoked Chicken Crisp (NEW HAPPY HOUR MENU)

ENTREES
Sticky Ribs & Umami Fries
Our tender baby back ribs are flash-fried until crispy, then tossed in housemade honey plum bbq sauce and served with sesame slaw & french fries drizzled with our umami sauce
BBQ Bison Meatloaf
All-natural Durham Ranch grass-raised Wyoming Bison, seasoned with Worcestershire, fresh herbs, BBQ sauce, garlic, and onions, wrapped in bacon, cooked until golden brown, and served with housemade red skin potato mash, sautéed spinach, and crispy haystack onions
Bone-In Pork Schnitzel (NEW FALL/WINTER MENU)
Hand-breaded with crushed pretzels and served with our red potato and bacon salad, apple cider cabbage slaw and creamy mustard sauce on the side. (Now, the Pork Schnitzel took me into a world of marvel, never in a million years would I pair crushed pretzels with a pork chop. You might imagine the taste of pretzels would be overbearing but no, its simplicity at its best.)

DESSERTS
Butter Cake
Homemade butter cake topped with a minted strawberry compote & vanilla bean ice cream, garnished with sweet balsamic
Won ‘Best Dessert’ at Taste Addison’s 2016 Taste Competition (The BEST butter cake I’ve ever tasted! The soft, sweet dessert will soothe any sweet tooth.)
Simms Family S’more (NEW FALL/WINTER MENU)
Inspired by family time around the campfire, this house favorite is made with layers of rich chocolate fudge, graham cracker crust, peanut butter and warm brownie, topped with a giant, fire-roasted, housemade marshmallow and crushed peanuts. (ONLY my favorite dessert! I’m a brownie + ice cream lover! It can’t be too sweet but it can’t be to dull either. Lazy Dog has the BEST combination of campfire perfection on a plate! The housemade marshmallow gets two thumbs up and I’ll never go back to bagged marshmallows.)

DRINKS
Whiskey Berry Bang
Small Batch Bulleit Rye Whiskey, housemade sweet and sour, winter berry and cherry puree, ancho reyes, dash of bitters, soda water, served over ice
Hop Head Sampler
Three 8oz IPA tasters
Sangria Sampler
Try all three of our Housemade Sangrias: White Peach, Raspberry Moscato & Pomegranate Red. (White Peach and Raspberry Moscato are two of my favorites of the bunch. These spirits are sweet and sparkling.)
Iced Mocha (nonalcoholic) (Pleasantly surprised this delisciousness served in a cup is like a non alcoholic White Russian)
After dabbing it up and hitting the mannequin challenge with Chris Simms, he shared that "one thing that makes Lazy Dog so unique it its menu has three parts: Comfort Foods, approachable innovation and bold invasion, lastly edgy and fun." Lazy Dog also does business with local breweries like Deep Ellum Brewing Co. and Revolver Brewing to ensure a selection of craft beers which is impressive.
Grab a friend a take a go at this vibrant menu! Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar is open daily for lunch and dinner, as well as for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.
