Belk and Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities converted the Ellis Davis Field House at the Jesse Owens Stadium in Oak Cliff into an all out back to school fair. Providing more than 2,200 uniforms to over 1,200 Dallas ISD students the “Belk pop-up shop” provided a shopping excursion for John Neely Bryan Elementary School and Boude Storey Middle School students.
“To achieve your dreams, you must create a foundation for success and that begins with education and good health” - Emmitt Smith.

Kicking off the event with a pep rally that featured Rowdy and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the Dallas Mavericks Dancers, as well as marching bands from Dallas ISD’s Thomas Jefferson High School and David W. Carter High School, students received free dental screenings from DECA Dental, vision screenings and eyeglasses from Essilor Vision, haircuts from TONI&GUY and San Francisco Barbershop of Dallas, as well as lunch and take-home grocery bags from Albertsons/Tom Thumb.
In its third year of partnership, Belk’s uniform donations have totaled to more than $1 million across its footprint, with $177,000 benefiting Dallas ISD. Words of encouragement spewed from the mouths of Dallas Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa, Texas Senator Royce West and Emmitt Smith encouraging a successful 2016/2017 school year.
Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities are leaving a footprint in our neighborhoods. Its refreshing to see such a legend and his family take pride in caring for our community.
