The Cottinghams Take Atlanta: Day 1 At The World of Coca Cola!

Atlanta, Georgia breeds southern hospitality and is known for its richness in African American celebrity and culture. Coined the “Black Hollywood” the hubs and I decided to make the great state of Georgia our family vacation spot for 2016. There is myself, Ellis- my husband, Silas- our 12 year old, Collin- our 8 year old and Jordon- our 7 year old.
Driving down Interstate 20 for 12 long (but easy- straight highway) hours, taking our excursion through 3 states- Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana we shared history facts on each in between naps and “How many hours do we have?” from Jordon.
Once arriving to Atlanta we checked into our quarters for the next few days. Greeted with waters, chocolates and a welcome packet from the city of Atlanta, Fairfield Inn & Suites - Downtown was home for the next few days. The 100 year old, 9 story building sits on the corner of Peachtree St and features marble topped wet bars, microwaves, mini fridges, sleeper sofa, free WIFI, free continental breakfast and the most comfortable pillow- top mattresses you’ll experience on vacation! The staff here is very helpful, making sure our experience was superb! Valet, front doorman and front desk host greeted us each day with smiles!
Driving 2 minutes up Peachtree St. we rode by Atlanta’s lighted ferris wheel and Centennial Park on our way to dinner. We ended up at Nuevo Laredo Cantina, an authentic Mexican cafe where servers greeted us wearing Blusas Tipicas (Mexican peasant blouses) and toting fresh salsas and chips. We ordered chicken quesadillas, lobster quesadillas, beef enchiladas and Sante Fe Chicken: Grilled 8oz chicken breast topped with Monterrey Jack cheese, Mexican Caviar, Fresh Avocado and Nuevo Laredo yellow cheese. Everything was wonderful and fresh! Collin and Ellis especially enjoyed the lobster quesadillas. So much so that he mentioned the dish throughout the whole trip!
Sunday we trekked to The Wonderful World of Coca Cola. Before hitting our destination we gazed and took snaps of the Atlanta landmarks along the way. Walking into the entrance you're faced with a bronze statue of John Pemberton- the creator of Coke. Once inside it was like stepping into a dream world. Greeted by oversized Coca Cola bottles with one of a kind designs each telling a story of a specific country, we got a brief educational story from one of the hosts and watched a video that shows just how the brand has put smiles on the faces of individuals across the world. The world of Coca Cola educates you on just about everything Coca Cola except- the recipe. From vintage bottles, vintage cars, stamps and ads, to bottling machines and cleaning machines, Olympic torches, a 4-D movie experience In Search of the Secret Formula with moving chairs, wind and water that take you on a voyage to even tasting flavors from all over the world! The World of Coca Cola is like a walking documentary and an extreme experience full of fun!
Of course we worked up an appetite and Zinburger was the call. Its a fresh, gourmet burger joint in Lenox Square with spectacular food selections. What makes this place even better is the staff- IMPECCABLE service every time I dine! A SAMBURGER topped with applewood smoked bacon, american cheese, lettuce, tomato and mustard paired “LOADED” fries- applewood smoked bacon, cheese sauce, sour cream and chives offer a flavorful overload!
