The Dallas International Film Festival presented the Opening Night Gala screening of The Land last Thursday at Dallas City Performance Hall within the modern One Arts Plaza. On the red carpet you spotted legendary Boom 94.5fm personality Mark McCrazy, Founder of DIFF, Michael Cain and many notable faces.

Dallas and I were in for a treat as writer and director Steven Caple Jr. and cast including Erykah Badu, Rafi Gavron, Jorge Lindeberg Jr. and Ezri Walker, sat a few rows ahead to share the rich cinematography of the film.

Director Steven Caple Jr.

Giving light to the streets in Caple’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, this film is a robust look at adolescent survival. One summer, four tightly knit young men of color are looking for a way overcome they’re lack of resources. After a set of unfavorable acts and honing on their skate boarding talents, the brotherhood find luck is on they’re side. This wave of fortune is a testament to the strength of friendship. Ambition, greed, compassion and ultimately trust are laid on the line.

Dallas native Erykah Badu meshes an extraordinary performance bringing to life the woes of an unfit mother.

Producers Blake Pickens, Steven Love and Nas (executive director) tie it all together alongside Low Spark Films, Priority Pictures and MACRO.

Anyone who watches this rich drama will agree that The Land is a realistic and riveting masterpiece. Check your local theaters for showtimes!
