Celebrity Makeup Artist Frederick Sanders Brings His Magical Touch To The DFW March 8th!

From a Dillard University Bachelor’s in Fine Arts to mastering face beats that you’ve seen on the Grammy, Trumpet and Stellar Awards red carpets, Atlanta bred Frederick Sanders went from prepping for law school to a successful career in makeup within a blink of an eye. With clients ranging from the unparalleled Phylicia Rashad to incomparable songstress India Arie and a client list consisting of fashion heavy weights Marc Jacobs and Alek Wek, I had the chance to get a quick Q & A chat with Frederick aka Fred4Face before his photo shoot with grammy nominated gospel artist Tamela Mann.
You’re a really talented guy, a fluent French, German and Spanish speaking teacher that transitioned into makeup. How'd that happen?
When I first started school I thought I would be an international attorney. I was teaching and prepping for law school. I went to New York during summer break and walked into MAC. They hired me on the spot and the rest is history. It happened so fast and was so smooth I knew it was God.
What makeup tool is a MUST HAVE for you?
My Airbrush machine is a must have. Great for my male clients…it makes them feel comfortable wearing makeup.
What advice do you have to transition a day look into an evening look within minutes?
Keep it simple but stay open when you see things and are intimidated by things. If you keep it simple you won't go too far. A simple smokey eye will be great! Color eye with eye pencil and blend it with finger. The only way it will be too much is if you use to much.
What's your favorite project that you’ve worked on thus far?
The reality show... Make Me A Super Model with Tyson Beckford. I worked with 2 supermodels, 1 male and 1 female. It was an episode where I did temporary tattoos and I won! A phenomenal, amazing experience.
If you could pick anyone, who would you love to work with?
Patti Labelle- I would like to go on a huge international tour with Ms. Patti. Ms. Pattie is just like someone's mother, she'll get you. I like working with sweet people. And she's legendary. What can we expect at your “Runway to Reality” class In Dallas on March 8th?
I have a special love for Dallas. When I came to Dallas with Tamala Mann I just felt that It's a place I saw for growth. Dallas is not as innovative with makeup as the rest of the world. I'm not interested in becoming a celebrity, I give intimate classes on my tour. I want to touch women and let them know hands on, the real true essence of applying makeup.
What advice do you have for aspiring makeup artists?
Remain humble...no matter how successful or talented you are. When you’re working in high pace environments you HAVE to take the back seat. And lastly, you've got to be a learner. Once you stop learning you have to hang up your makeup case.
