Erykah Badu AKA DJ Low Down Loretta Brown AKA Cerebellum AKA She-ill AKA Medulla Oblongata hosts The

The Soul Train Awards aired on BET may just be the BEST awards show to hit the tube since… well, a very long time!

With classic performances by Tevin Campbell, After 7, Jill Scott, Boyz II Men, Cameo, R. Kelly, Tyrese, Jeremih, Fantasia, Jazmine Sullivan, Erica Campbell, Brandy, Babyface and new comers Tasha Cobb, Lion Babe and V. Bozeman the Soul Train Awards presented by Centric had something for every generation! Performances so good they will make you tear up!

Hosted by Dallas’ very own Erykah Badu and her eccentric-ness, the Las Vegas event delivered everything from classic hits to current ones. Honorees included Jill Scott for Lady of Soul Awards and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds for the Legend Award (I didn’t realize that man had so many hits under his belt!)

Associate Producer Erykah Badu FINALLY met Tyrone…. we got a lil dip from DJ Low Down Loretta Brown when she made Tyrese put down his phone and oh the shade thrown from her to Iggy Azalea! (I wonder if Iggy will catch it and throw it back…she’s a lil firecracker)

The highlight for me personally was that dog on Soul Cypher (click here for video) featuring award winning artists Chrisette Michelle, Lalah Hathaway, Gerald Levert and K-Ci backed up with beats from DJ Low Down Loretta Brown. They each delivered a small solo and eventually came together in PERFECT harmony. That whistle note that Hathaway delivered took my breath away! (I think I blacked out for like 2.3 seconds)

Aside from Cameo's "codpiece" *gags*, It looked like a huge party and every time the camera turned to the audience they were smiles! The Soul Train Awards reminisced of the fun, dancing, grand ol party the Soul Train show took us to for 35 years. Take a peek at more pics below.
