Gabrielle Union, Andra Day & Mel B All Show Up To Essence Magazine's 2nd Annual Street Style

Gabrielle Union

Never in a million years did I imagine I’d be under the Manhattan Bridge rocking out to a live performance by R&B sensation Andra Day, witnessing a live runway show hosted by my fav Spice Girl- Mel B and ESSENCE Fashion Editor Joiee Thorpe or so close to Gabrielle Union while she accepts her “Closet Crush” Award that I could literally count the strands of fringe on her glamorous Marchesa frock. EEK! It all happened at the 2nd Annual Essence Style Block Party.

Hosted by Dana Blair, DUMBO was the place to be Sunday during New York Fashion Week if you wanted to experience a multitude of fashion and culture of the masses. The array of style and beauty was a pleasant overload and the trendy closet revamp from Aphro Chic presented by The Home Depot provided a cozy spot to gaze upon the stage as dynamic duo DJ Olivia Dope and Tiff McFierce hit us with body rocking beats from the 90’s and on.

Corri Murray, Entertainment Directer says “This block party if for you! Our readers that are stylish, we want to celebrate you and bring the runway to you!"

The Essence Style Block Party also hosted local food trucks dubbed "Essence Eats", jewelry and clothing vendors, music and of course STYLE! Illustrious haircare company, Shea Moisture was on hand to give hair and beauty makeovers, the kids zone was a place for children to get face paintings and a kids clinic from The Home Depot.

YourQueens.com stopped traffic to pose for pictures and this sent the crowd into a frenzy (including myself). These ladies tell the stories of Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Makeda, Amina and Isis through song and dance! ESSENCE proves yet again why they are the number one media company dedicated to African American women. Head over to the Facebook page for more pics!
