FedEx gets a Solar System!!

I was invited to see the new solar rooftop at FedEx Ground and man, what an experience! Business in Southern Dallas is booming and FedEx Ground recently had a massive rooftop solar system installed at the Dallas (Hutchins) hub. This offsets the facility’s electricity consumption by 20%, equivalent to the electricity used by 177 homes in one year. (I wonder what’s the average electricity bill and what’s the new bill looking like at FedEx?)

Statewide leaders such as Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (who did the honors of flipping the switch), Commissioner John Wiley Price, Texas House Representative Helen Giddings, City of Hutchins’ Mayor Vasquez, and Oncor company representatives were in attendance to celebrate this “green” venture!

The rooftop solar system became operational at the Dallas hub in October 2014 which has about 1,100 employees and it only took about 9 weeks for complete installation! When I heard that as I was atop of the scissor lift looking at the panels, I couldn’t believe it. The rooftop solar installation at the Dallas hub joins FedEx Ground facilities with solar systems in Woodbridge, New Jersey, Queens, New York, and Rialto, California.

I don’t know about you guys but it’s something about companies that focus on making things “green” that gets me excited! I mean, I’m no green fiend but I am careful about the things I put into the earth!
