If you thought “Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend” would be motivating, powerful, inspirational and thought provoking then you are RIGHT! It is all of that and more! Taking place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on October 17 & 18, 2014 Oprah took to the stage on Friday (in a yellow, belted, floor length shirt dress-FAB) with what I call “Souper Soul Oprah”. She began with “We are all stars” as the arena lit up and the audience is instantly engaged. It was literally over an hour and a half of storytelling lessons from the Queen of media and world giving herself (still amazed). She spoke on personal topics such as her battle with “accepting” that she would not be in the 1985 Academy Award nominated film The Color Purple, her true passion which is helping people and the trials and tribulations along the way and how we should practice gratitude (one thing she shows gratitude for is great shower pressure, ha-ha) Afterwards (what feels like the greatest ceremony of my life) Jen and I could not keep quiet about the things we learned and the quote we kept repeating for the weekend “Be Still”. Our goals moving forward and how we plan to incorporate these life lessons in our everyday life.
We started Saturday at “O Town” (a pop up town square filled with booths, lounges, live music, cooking demos, celebrity guests and photo kiosks) taking a journey through the galleries of celebrity guest on the Oprah Winfrey show over the span of 25 years. From there we visited the various tents such as O Magazine Lounge displaying previous copies of the magazine plastered on the walls, an opportunity to put your face on the cover and best friend Gayle King who took photos (and very pleasantly might I add) with guests who waited to get the unforgettable shot, Olay was on the scene and I caught guests making their own commercials and Toyota showcased “The Bold New Camry”. Afterwards, we essentially went to LIFE SCHOOL brought on by the “Life Trailblazers” Deepak Chopra- world-renowned author and pioneer in mind-body medicine; Elizabeth Gilbert- best-selling author of Eat Pray Love; Pastor Rob Bell- one of Time 100’s Most Influential people and Iyanla Vanzant- star of OWN’s hit series “Iyanla Fix My Life,” regular O Magazine contributor, best-selling author and spiritual life coach and boy did we learn some things! From meditation, to prayers, to just breathing and having strength.
A quick fitness workout inside the arena, SoulCycle presented by Angela Davis was oh so refreshing and unexpected! The whole arena took part as she blessed us with a speedy cardio routine to get our hearts pumping while belting "If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you!" (Think on that)
Oprah Winfrey and Toyota Brand Ambassador, Paralympic Bronze Medalist snowboarder, Team Toyota athlete and "Dancing with The Stars" finalist Amy Purdy took to the stage to award Yamile Jackson of Nurtured by Recognized, the Toyota “Standing O-Vation” award and a $25,000 grant on behalf of Toyota for her innovation and dedication do helping babies and their families (such a heartfelt story). Yamile Jackson, who has a doctorate in ergonomics engineering, formed Nurtured by Design to help babies undergoing medical care in a hospital by simulating the touch of their parents when they are unable to be present and hold them
Guys…all I can say is “Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend” is WONDERFULLLLLL (Oprah Voice) I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life! I’m ready to move forward, take my glory and RUN!! :-)
